Summer Program

The Saint Maur Summer Program promotes our philosophy towards Lifelong Learning by offering English-speaking children a blend of academic enrichment throughout mid-June to early July, in core subjects such as language arts, mathematics, technology, science, art, drama, and sports. Students do not need to be enrolled in Saint Maur International School during the regular academic year in order to participate in our summer program.

2013 Summer School Program

for children 2½ to 5+ years of age

Half-day: 8:45 am - 11:45 am
Full-day: 8:45 am - 3:00 pm
Children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age will enjoy discovering themselves as members of a group and as individuals at the Pre-School summer program. The Montessori philosophy is closely followed as children are directed through various individual and group educational activities, as well as other activities such as singing songs, discovering their creative talents through exposure to various arts and crafts activities, and enjoying physical activities outdoors. First Grade Headstart

For children starting first grade in fall 2013
Register for 2, 3, or 4 weeks
June 17 to July 12

Children must attend at least 2 consecutive weeks. 

8:45 am - 3:00 pm

Participation in this program provides opportunities for children to develop their speaking and listening skills and help to further prepare them academically for entry into Grade 1. Students learn to read while focusing on phonics, fluency and comprehension through whole class, small group and individual activities. Daily writing exercises are incorporated into learning activities. Basic addition, subtraction and problem solving skills are taught in the Math classes.The IPC, Art and Physical Education sessions, allow students to extend their knowledge and abilities.  (Instructor: Miss Nakagawa)

Elementary

for students starting Grades 2-5 in fall of 2013

Students must attend at least 2 consecutive weeks.

Courses for the first 3 weeks of summer school are:

“Exploration Week!”

full-day from 8:45a.m. to 3:00p.m.
 

“Explore Science!” every morning with experiments in the Chemistry lab with Dr. Mary Anne Suzuki & Cooking/Baking in the kitchen (themes linked to the day’s Science experiments). After lunch, students  “Explore Sports!” every afternoon with Mrs. Okaguchi: Swimming, Bowling, Tennis, and more on campus and at the YC&AC (activities subject to weather conditions).

What about my Lunch?

Cezars Kitchen

Students may bring their own lunches, or they may choose to order lunch from Cezars Kitchen. Cezars Kitchen produces great lunches everyday. The cost of meals isn’t included in the summer school program but the lunch service is easy to use, great value and takes the hassle out of preparing packed lunches every day. Another benefit is since it’s a prepaid system you can be assured your child will only be able to buy the approved items available in the cafeteria.

What is included with the Set-Lunch? Every lunch includes a hot main entree with side dish, fresh salad, dessert soup, dessert and a choice of 100% juice or iced tea. Students will take food from our great hot and cold buffets. The lunches are designed to give summer school students the best opportunity to fuel themselves for their busy day with a balanced and nutritious meal that changes daily and made right here onsite in the school cafeteria;

What’s being served for lunch?  Our delicious, nutritionally balanced lunch menu for the Summer Lunch Program will be posted in the school cafeteria and also available online at http://cezarskitchen.com/stm-summer-menu/

Supplementary snacks and drinks are also available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. 

What is the cost of lunch? The daily set-lunch with drink is 650yen; 500yen for Montessori children.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: If your child has a medical condition, allergy, or special needs, please email details in English or Japanese to nurse@stmaur.ac.jp so that we can determine our ability to meet such needs and the eligibility for your child to participate in our Summer School program. Although we exercise reasonable care, the school cannot assume responsibility for providing a completely allergen-free environment, and therefore, cannot eliminate all risk to those who suffer from specific allergies.

Eligibility

Montessori Pre-School 

There is no language pre-requisite for pre-school children; however, they must be toilet trained and at least age 2 years and 6 months by the first day of summer school.

Note: Admittance into the Summer School Pre-school Program is not a guarantee of acceptance into the regular Montessori School in the fall. 

Grades 1 to 12

Students need not be presently enrolled at Saint Maur in order to participate in the Summer School Program.  Any child who is fluent in English and can follow the curriculum, including reading and writing at the appropriate grade level, may apply. In certain cases, an interview to verify English fluency may be requested before application can be accepted.

Registration and Tuition Fees

Registration Fees and Deadlines

  • April: Early Registration fee   ¥10,000(Deadline 4/30)
  • May: Normal Registration fee   ¥15,000(Due by 5/31)
  • June 1-10: Late Registration fee ¥20,000 (Due by 6/10)

 June 10: Final deadline for payment of summer school fees (including tuition & registration)

NOTE: Registration fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. 
Tuition cannot be refunded for withdrawals on or after 
June 14.

 

Simultaneous remittance of both registration and tuition fees can be made, if preferred. In this case,please complete tuition payment according to the registration fee deadline.

PRIORITYis given to Saint Maur students applying for the full day 3-week program. Children not enrolled in Saint Maur during the regular school year are welcome to apply to our summer school program, provided they are fluent in English. Pre-school children have no language proficiency requirement.

If course enrollment does not meet the minimum number of students required, the course will be cancelled and registered students will receive full refund of tuition and registration fees.

The California Baptist University Choir

will perform in the  
Saint Maur Auditorium
1:50 to 3:00 p.m.
Open to Saint Maur parents, students and friends of the Saint Maur Community
Students not enrolled in summer school are welcome to attend this performance.
Free Admission 

All summer school students will be attending this performance which will take place the last period of the day on Friday, June 21.
