Participation in this program will give students the opportunity to review basic skills in Language Arts and Math. Students will be introduced to new concepts and have the opportunity to learn new academic and personal skills.
Students will be exposed to the Daily 5 program and activities; they will also learn some C.A.F.É strategies. We will be studying phonics, reading in different settings, gaining writing fluency and perfecting their handwriting.
Math: Students will be working mostly on number sense. We will focus on ordering numbers, counting, strategies for addition and subtraction, fact recall, and problem solving.
Science, Social Studies, Art: Students will be working on various projects in these subject areas. We will have the chance to inquire, experiment, and explore.
Students will take part in activities that promote physical awareness, spacial awareness and cooperative skills game skills.
Overall, the goal is for students to become familiar with 1st grade daily routines, to experience an Elementary school setting and to gain independence skill essential for a smooth transition into 1st grade.
*If the weather permits, the children may be spending some time outside the classroom or perhaps outside of school, around our community, for some short class excursions.
