Having met the educational needs of children, of all nationalities and faiths, from the international community since 1872, Saint Maur International School, the oldest existing international school in Japan and Asia, is recognized as being the pioneer of international education in Japan. Its longevity has enabled the school to create unique programmes that support the family, which is an essential ingredient in assuring the successful development and well-being of the ‘whole child.’

Accepting an overseas assignment, or even transferring from one region to another within Japan, can initially be a daunting experience for you and your family. One of the major considerations is assuring the quality of the education available to your child/children.

We extend an invitation to you to visit Saint Maur International School and the Ecole Francaise de Saint Maur in Yokohama. Located in the residential and historical Yamate area of Yokohama, the school is well serviced by public transportation being close to train, and subway stations, as well as several bus routes.

Although the school remains traditional in its values, it is progressive in educational innovation. It is our aim to offer a quality education within a caring and nurturing environment to students from age 2 ½ through high school. Our pre-school follows the Montessori system of education which develops essential skills, educational and social, during the most formative years of a child's life. The skills learnt are enhanced through the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) pursued in Grade 1 to 5. The IPC is a child-centered programme which develops advanced levels of understanding and critical thinking skills. In the secondary school, students are prepared to sit external examinations for the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and IB (International Baccalaureate) courses offered, resulting in 100% of our graduates entering university/college most years.

Our multi-national, well-qualified and experienced staff, bring with them an abundance of expertise and knowledge in a variety of areas. At all levels, the programmes offered encompass academic, social, moral/ethical, and physical growth, while also developing a strong sense of self-worth, cooperation, community, and a respectful understanding and appreciation of others and their differences.

French-speaking families are provided with the opportunity for their child/children to pursue their education through the medium of French from Grade 1 to 5 in our Ecole Francaise de Saint Maur, which is situated on the same site as the international section. Students participating in this programme join students in the international section for specified subjects, enabling them to acquire skills in English, and thereby facilitating a smoother transition to the English medium international section in Grade 6.

A modern, well-equipped, secure and well-maintained facility and campus provides an environment conducive to student learning. At all levels, students participate in a range of clubs and extra-curricular activities, and through involvement in such activities as the annual International Food Fair, Japanese Culture Day/Week and International Day, can benefit from the cultural and ethnic diversity which exists within the school community.

Be assured of a warm welcome should you wish to visit us, and please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

As we continue to encourage life-long learning, we welcome you all to be part of our vibrant learning community, and welcome you to join us at Saint Maur.
