Over the last weekend of January, a group of Grade 8 students had a remarkable opportunity to engage in the inaugural TjMUN conference. Across two immersive days, they assumed the roles of various countries, delving into intense discussions on global issues.
Celebrate with us as we recount the memorable evening of October 28th, when our school hosted a spectacular Gala Dinner at the prestigious Westin Hotel in Yokohama. The event brought together approximately 120 esteemed guests, including Saint Maur alumni, parents, staff and teachers, for a wonderful evening of music, dining and conversation.
The magic of the festive season at Saint Maur International School started when our community came together on Sunday, November 11th, for an unforgettable Christmas Bazaar. The support and generosity of our incredible parents, teachers, students, alumni and friends transformed the day into a winter wonderland.
Our Pre-School Montessori students have been learning about ice cream these past few weeks. The child-centred learning included crafting decorative ice cream cones, learning a mathematical song about a little girl who wants to have ten scoops of ice cream, colouring and decorating a big welcome sign outside their classroom, and finally, the children made their own ice cream!
The Grade 8 Overnight Trip is an opportunity for students to have fun, get outdoors, disconnect from their phones and reflect on their unique skills. This camp is both an Educational Excursion and Day of Reflection wrapped into three great days.
Last week, the grade 7 classes and homeroom teachers enjoyed a three day excursion to Miyagi prefecture. The goals of the trip were to experience the culture of Japan, to build friendships, and to have fun. Happily, the trip was a success all around.
On May 3rd and 4th, seventeen students from the Middle School competed in the Tokyo Round of the World Scholar’s Cup. The World Scholar’s Cup consists of four events: Team Debate, Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing, and the Scholar’s Bowl.
Saint Maur's Model United Nations (MUN) Club took part in their first conference this year. On the 25th and 26th of March, the students attended JMMUN (Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations), a conference hosted by Senzoku Gakuen. They had the task of representing DR Congo and Singapore in the OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights) where they discussed how to solve the issue of modern slavery with students from all over Japan.
On the 22nd of February, 11 students from Saint Maur International School and seven students from Futaba Junior and Senior High School cleaned the graves of the Catholic sisters connected to our schools. We met at Futaba School and carried all the tools we needed, such as brooms and brushes, to the Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery.
November 5th, 2022 marked a special occasion as Saint Maur staff, alumni, parents and members of the international community in Yokohama came together to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Saint Maur International School. The event was held at the ballroom of the splendid Kahala Hotel & Resort with our alumnus and renowned TV personality, Thane Camus, guiding us through the evening.
It was a weekend of excitement and competition as three teams from the Saint Maur Robotics Club traveled to the American School in Japan (ASIJ) to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14. The three teams were made up of students from grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, who had been working hard in preparation for the event.
