English Department

Our students develop a love of the written word while reading a diverse selection of literature.

From Macbeth to Maya Angelou

Students are encouraged to read widely, and, to this end, English classes visit the school library each fortnight.

Our students learn to express themselves effectively through writing a variety of texts and to articulate their ideas in discussions.

Each year the English department recognizes two outstanding students. The Golden Pen Award is given to recognize a high school student for outstanding achievement in English classes and for participation in related activities. The Linguist of the Year award is given to a student who is learning English, has shown a love for the subject, and has made outstanding progress towards mastery of the language.
