Celebrating Diwali at Saint Maur

Celebrating Diwali at Saint Maur

This week we celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in our classroom. Diwali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India. During this time we decorate our homes with lights, candles, and colorful rangoli designs to invite Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.

Additionally, Diwali is celebrated as a victory of good over evil and light over darkness based on a traditional Indian scripture, Ramayana.

The children learned about the origins of the festival and celebrated Diwali by making cards, listening to the story, creating their own rangoli designs, dancing, and enjoying Parle G (a special Indian biscuit).

Being Global Citizens the children are enhancing their understanding of international cultures while having a fun celebration!

In addition, our Indian staff members shared in their celebrations by distributing delicious Samosas. Well enjoyed by everyone!
