The Science Department recently welcomed back one the Saint Maur graduate from the 1995 class. Dr Vanessa Sancho-Shimizu kindly took on some of her time off visiting relatives in Japan to give a presentation to our Grade 11 Biology students about her work on the study of genetics in order to understand Human health and disease. The Lantau Island Irish Dance Feis (Competition) in Hong Kong took place on October 27th, 2018 with the performance of four Saint Maur students: Gr. 4 Aya, Gr. 7 Rio and Rin, and Gr. 9 Anna. Saint Maur hosted its annual Yokohama College Fair on Wednesday 14 November 2018. We are proud to announce the printing of Anna and Haruka's (Grade 9) essays on Children's Literary Journal "Peace" (Vol.23). The two students wrote essays in their Japanese class with Mrs. Uehara, on their hopes for creating a world without wars, and living in peace. The journal was finally published this summer by Zaidanhoujin Heiwakyoukai (Peace Association), a foundation aiming to nurture key traits of peace protectors in children. On Friday, November 2nd we held our annual Sports Day for Elementary, Middle and High School. It was beautiful weather and a fantastic day was had by all. In the Elementary School Sports Day, held at Futaba Field and the Saint Maur Interim Gym, the champions were the Blue Team who came from behind in a dramatic victory! On Sunday 11th November 2018, the French school students participated in the 100th Anniversary ceremony at the Yokohama Foreign Cemetery to commemorate the end of World War One (1914-1918), also called "The war to end all wars". Runners who have been at Saint Maur for a number of years will be familiar with the name Novick. Brother and sister secured the top position on the Saint Maur Fastest Runners table in 2000 (Ian) and 2007 (Anna). While our coach Anna Novick is still at the top of the female list, Ian’s time was beaten by two seconds in 2017 by Ken Johnson who is now sitting comfortably at the top of the male list.
