On Tuesday, November 6th 2024, students and staff from the Middle School gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the achievements and contributions of our students in a ceremony that emphasized the values at the heart of our community.
On Friday 27th September, 38 Grade 10 enthusiastic students and four excited teachers stepped out onto the rainy streets surrounding the school for a historical walking tour of Yokohama led by Mr. Glenn Scoggins, retired Saint Maur history teacher and author of Steadfast: a portrait of our school's long history.
In June, 33 of our talented Grade 9 to 12 High School students embarked on an unforgettable cultural journey to London, immersing themselves in the world of art, drama, and history. For one week, the students, specializing in either Art or Drama, explored the vibrant heart of the city while participating in a range of exciting and educational activities.
Last month, our Grade 7 students spent three fun-filled days in Tochigi prefecture. We stayed at Hoshifuru Gakko Kumanoki in Shioya Machi, the site of a former elementary school that has found a second life as an accommodation for group trips.
Each year in May and June, our tenth graders take the externally-administered IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations. Last year, all Grade 10 students at Saint Maur participated in these exams, with their results being released on August 13th, 2024.
It is an undeniable fact that since the opening of the Cougar Café Activity & Sports Center, the frequency and range of activities offered to our students and extended community has increased substantially.
At the start of this month, students in Middle School and upper Elementary School were treated to a sensational performance by one of Saint Maur's Music teachers, Christina Foster. This event was part of our Concert & Lecture series and featured a wide variety of violin music in a huge range of contrasting styles.
Last weekend, Saint Maur proudly hosted the inaugural KPASS Dance Festival. We welcomed approximately 100 students from seven international schools in Yokohama and Tokyo, including The American School in Japan, Aoba Japan International School, International School of Sacred Heart, Malvern College Tokyo and Seisen.
The Grade 6 and 7 scientists presented the results of their scientific investigations at the annual Middle School Science Fair last Friday.
Food Fair came and went far too fast. Yet as I recall all the snapshots of what made the event so great, I am proud to be part of this community, its history and its legacy. Students, teachers and parents helped one another and displayed their culture proudly.
One of the benefits of teaching at Saint Maur for ‘quite a long time’ is that you can sometimes follow students for many miles along their educational path. It was with tremendous excitement therefore that at 2pm EST (3am Tokyo time!), I was able to log on to Zoom to observe the PhD Defense of Reina Iwase (Class of 2013).
All members of our community are welcome to submit a news for publication on this website.
