This year on April 29th, instead of our traditional Food Fair, we hosted a special 150th Anniversary Celebration Day for our students!
Our Montessori students had a fun-filled Sports Day last Friday, May 20th, and we were excited that we were able to invite parents again not just as spectators but also to take part in two final activities!
On Friday, May 13th, we opened our doors to the Saint Maur parent community for our very first in-person Elementary concert in 3 years! The different performances featured music learnt in Music class throughout the academic year.
We recently reported on the visit to our labs by Dr Aki Minoda, a group leader at RIKEN research institute, mentioning that Dr Minoda was a very active supporter of the Science Department. Today we are delighted to report that thanks to her help, the Biology lab is on its way to conduct a new and very exciting range of experiments.
This past week, Saint Maur International School held its annual Middle School Science Fair. The 6th and 7th Grade students presented their scientific research to staff, parents, and other students from Grades 5 to 11. It was the culmination of two months of research and testing and while many of the students were nervous, they did brilliantly presenting to such a broad audience.
As we approach the end of the academic year, the Music department felt it would be a great time to report on some of the fantastic live events that our students have recently performed in!
A big thank you to our Parent Support Group (PSG) at Saint Maur for their financial support with a new music workshop series that allowed top musicians to perform a concert and lecture live on stage for our students.
As we approach the end of the academic year, the Music department felt it would be a great time to report on some of a fantastic KPASS event that we have participated in this spring, whilst also letting you know about the next KPASS event that is still to come!
Kanto Champions! For the first time in school history, the Saint Maur Middle School Boys Baseball Team won the Kanto Tournament which was held at ASIJ on Saturday, May 9th. Cougars had high hopes entering the tournament as we were seeded 2nd overall. Having a successful season, we only had one goal in mind: To win the championship!
With the seniors off for exams, multiple injuries, and new players who have never practiced with us, the Saint Maur Cougars’ final game was limited to only one substitute and even saw the debut of 8th graders Hugo and Kuga. Put against YIS’s Junior Varsity team, the Cougars put up a fierce fight despite what the scoreline would suggest. Lack of preparation and a full bench rotation of substitutes for YIS posed many difficulties for the Cougars.
On February 13, 2022, I went to Kanagawa Budokan to take a promotion exam administered by Kanagawa Kendo Federation and passed the exam to receive 4th Dan in Kendo. In Kendo, 4th Dan and above are considered to be instructors’ ranks and therefore suitability as an instructor is one of the criteria for passing the exam.
Every year the PSG kindly host a Bingo Bash for our Elementary Students. Not only is much fun had by all but the lucky winners win a special prize – A visit to the Chemistry laboratory with a friend.
