With the end of the academic year soon approaching came the last session of our Elementary School Aikido Class. In order to celebrate all the learning and personal growth that the students went through during those many weeks of dedicated training, we hosted our yearly examination session.
As human beings, one thing that we see across cultures and traditions, is the importance of marking milestones with rituals. It is often important for us to teach children that they have achieved certain moments in their lives that signify change, more responsibility or an entry into sacredness.
Before the Spring vacation, Saint Maur was delighted to once again host a joint Jazz Big Band Concert with Tokyo College of Music. This is the third time that the jazz ensembles have collaborated and once again students learnt a great deal from this inspiring experience.
Twenty-one very excited Montessori students braved the rainy weather to visit the Chemistry Lab on Tuesday April 9th. They were treated to three exciting experiments on the theme of ‘Color’. First, they were taught how to perform chromatography of marker pen ink. This sounds more difficult than it is!
On 16th March two of our Seniors represented Saint Maur International School at the Forum of International Research in Science and Technology (YSF-FIRST 2024) held at Yokohama Science Frontier High School.

The exhilarating journey reached its pinnacle as our Middle School Basketball Boys A Team soared to new heights, claiming the championship trophy at the fiercely contested Kanto Lower League Tournament.

On Friday, Saint Maur hosted the KPASS Jazz Festival. International schools from all across the Kanto region came to our auditorium to perform with Big Bands and Combos.
Over the last weekend of January, a group of Grade 8 students had a remarkable opportunity to engage in the inaugural TjMUN conference. Across two immersive days, they assumed the roles of various countries, delving into intense discussions on global issues.
On January 24, Grade 7 visited Yokohama Science Frontier High School (YSFH) for their Educational Excursion. After a warm welcome, the students from the two schools collaborated to build miniature rockets (with real fuel!).
On Sunday 14th of January, the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo hosted their annual Kagamibiraki ceremony. Kagamibiraki (鏡開き, lit. "opening the mirror") is originally a shinto event that involves the breaking of a cake (kagami mochi, 鏡餅) that consists of two round rice cakes placed on top of one another, with a shiny finish that mimics the surface of a round mirror. The superposition of a small mochi on top of the bigger one symbolizes the Yin and the Yang, as well as the passing of a year and the coming of the new one.
