About the class:
Create Stunning Table Décor from Vintage Japanese Obi
Discover the art of transforming exquisite vintage Japanese obi—beautiful silk sashes traditionally worn with kimonos—into elegant table mats and a table runner.
In this hands-on class, you will:
- Learn techniques to cut, line, and stitch obi fabric into unique table décor.
- Explore design ideas to highlight the rich textures and patterns of these traditional textiles.
- Craft pieces that become true conversation starters for your dining space.
Please bring:
- 2 vintage obi’s (or several) of your choice—second-hand options are widely available and very affordable.
- A sewing machine (alternatively, you can sew by hand)
- Scissors / Rotary cutter
- Marking pencil / chalk
- Cutting board
- Pins
- Tassels: can be easily purchased on Amazon depending on the style and colors of your Obi
Whether you’re an experienced sewist or just beginning, this workshop offers a wonderful way to celebrate Japanese heritage while creating functional art for your home.
